The cost of the construction work to be carried out by the consortium comes to 177.8 million Euros. With this project, the state government aims to transfer 50 million m3 of water per year from the semi-desert area to the Queretaro metropolitan area.

The water pipeline will traverse 108 kilometres from the north-east to south-east of the state and will cross the sources of the Panuco and Lerma-Chapala rivers. It includes a reservoir be held by a concrete gravity dam on the river Moztezuma 16m high and with a crown of 100 m; pumping stations; tanks; pipes and construction of a water treatment plant that will have a design flow of 1.5 m3/s to supply drinking water to almost 700,000 people in the metropolitan area of Queretaro. Its construction will require 41.5 km of roads, high-voltage power lines and a communications system.
