FCC Construcción’s experience in all types of bridges has been applied to many of the projects undertaken in Mexico. The San Marcos viaduct is unique structure, it is the highest viaduct in America and the second highest in the world, at the time of its construction.

Viaducts on the Durango–Mazatlán Motorway
The construction of Section II of this motorway required the rugged terrain of the Sierra Madre Occidental to be traversed via an almost uninterrupted succession of bridges and tunnels.
FCC constructed multiple high-rise viaducts using the successive cantilever method (building the bridge in both directions from the central piers without the need for temporary supports at the bottom of the ravines).
The fabrication and hoisting of heavy-duty prestressed beams in areas without viable land access required the design of temporary service roads and the use of heavy-lift cranes.

The San Marcos Bridge (Nuevo Necaxa–Tihuatlán Motorway)
Located in the state of Puebla, this structure is one of the most impressive feats of Mexican civil engineering and a genuine international record-breaker. With a length of 845 metres, this viaduct spans the deep canyon of the San Marcos River.
Its central pier (Pier 4) stands 225 metres high from the base to the deck, which at the time made it the second-tallest bridge pier in the world.
